Delivering a Secure, Flexible Jury Voting System – Case Study
When COVID-19 disrupted BAFTA’s traditional jury voting process, we acted quickly to replace a fragmented, hybrid system with a unified, cloud-based solution. This case study explores how we designed and delivered Jury 3.0, a fully integrated, secure and flexible platform built into Nucleus that supports both remote and in-person jury workflows.
The project aimed to resolve several longstanding pain points: legacy encryption that was difficult to manage, inconsistent login experiences, and heavy admin overhead. By introducing real-time WebSocket updates, seamless just-in-time SSO authentication, and a modernised Svelte-based UI, we radically simplified the experience for jurors and administrators alike. Critically, we replaced fragile PGP encryption with Libsodium, improving both usability and security without compromising performance.
The result is a modern platform that balances accessibility with operational rigour. Admins can now configure juries more easily, manage real-time votes securely, and reduce dependency on support teams. Feedback from both internal users and jurors has been overwhelmingly positive — and support tickets dropped by more than 90% post-launch. Jury 3.0 now serves as the standard for all BAFTA jury rounds, positioning the organisation to manage its most sensitive processes with clarity, confidence, and control.
