Introducing a Purpose-Built Diversity Data Collection Workflow in Nucleus – Case Study
This case study is part of my ongoing 9-part series highlighting key platform developments and workflow improvements delivered across BAFTA and FOCAL. Each post reflects the balance of strategic planning and hands-on product work that’s gone into modernising legacy systems, streamlining operations, and improving user outcomes.
In this project, I worked with BAFTA to reimagine how diversity data was collected for the Television Awards, supporting compliance with the BFI Diversity Standards while improving the user experience for entrants and the internal review process for administrators. The original process relied on free-text fields and manual review, which created bottlenecks and delayed publishing entries to BAFTA View. We needed a more structured, scalable approach.
By introducing a dedicated diversity workflow, integrated status controls, and automated reporting with AWS QuickSight, we made the process faster, clearer, and easier to manage — without compromising on accuracy or inclusivity. The resulting system reduced admin burden, decoupled diversity approvals from video publishing, and enabled proactive data insight across broadcaster, region, and category.
